Top 5 Ways To Prepare for your
Renovation
1. Include all members of the household in the decision-making process.
Home is where the heart is. Oftentimes, we aren’t always on the same page with other family members on the changes we want. However, asking everyone to be involved in the discussion will help determine the goal and direction of the projects.
2. Be open to the idea that delays can happen.
Depending on how busy your contractor is, you may have to wait to get your projects done. However, we believe busy contractors are good contractors. During the wait time, it is always beneficial for you to think of different designs to discuss with your contractors, so they can order the appropriate materials. Sometimes these things take time to receive so the earlier the better.
3. Gather up all of your ideas and wish list items.
Wishlist items are amazing at providing ideas to discuss with your contractors, and then, designers can also be involved in the process to bring your ideas to life. Wishlist items are also helpful in determining a price range for your projects, and to see if all of the items can fit in the budget you have in mind.
4. Consider doing small demolition stuff yourself.
Doing small demolition yourself can help reduce the overall costs of the projects, better yet, it is a free workout for you! We do not suggest doing large demolitions yourself for safety reasons.
5. Set a budget larger than you would expect
Some things can change during the projects and thus may affect the overall costs. It is quite challenging to predict all the possible things that can go wrong in a home. As such, we suggest that you have a budget larger than what you expect. To make sure changes are done right, we use a change order form. Any amount charged on the change order form is paid upfront to make sure the required changes are done correctly and in a timely manner.
