Why is There a Breeze Coming Through my Exterior Doors?
Quickly Imagine that you have a home with a brand new furnace, good wall insulation, and brand new energy-efficient windows. But over time, you’re starting to notice something when you walk past your front/back door. There is a cold breeze sneaking through!
Don’t panic yet because there is good news! Based on our experience, it is a simple and cheap fix. Below are a few explanations for the cold winds in your home:
1. The door is not sealed against the weather stripping properly.
This could be due to the weather stripping being old or the door not aligning, causing it to not be pushed tight into the stripping.
2. The space between the door and the wall frames is not insulated property or at all.
All exterior openings should have low expansion spray foam between the two frames to prevent the cold air from passing into your home.
3. The door is old and/or has bad insulating properties.
Wooden doors are not as good in insulating your home as fiberglass insulated doors. Also, as doors get older, their insulating properties deteriorate and will need to be replaced to maintain energy efficiency.
Exterior doors repair can be simple and cheap to fix. It is important to get it inspected right away before it has time to cause subsequent damages to your home, so you can save money from heating bill and further repairs.
