Best type of flooring to use
in your bathroom 2021
In this article, we are listing our favorite flooring types for the bathroom. We will provide the pros and cons and we hope this will help you in making the right decision for your home.
Tiles:
Normally made of porcelain or ceramic, they are highly resistant to scratches, dents, cracks, and chips. Lately, other materials such as stones and metals, have been mixed with tiles.
Pros:
- Highly resilient.
- Long lasting.
- Can have heated flooring.
- Many styles, colors, and textures.
Cons:
- Higher cost of both materials and installation.
- Poor installation can result in difficult repair and the entire section must be redone.
- Longer installation- usually 3 days or more.
- Requires proper waterproofing to prevent water infiltration beneath the tiles, causing mold and rotting.
- Can be cold if heated floor is not included.
- Can be slippery.
Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP):
This product is currently our favorite. It is made of vinyl in multiple compressed layers. We suggest going for the thicker variety as it holds up better than the thinner/cheaper options. It can be installed by either clicking or gluing down method.
Pros:
- Best all-around value.
- Faster installation because there is no need to grout, seal, or stain the materials.
- It is highly resistant to water infiltration (some manufactures even claim waterproof).
- Finishes can look similar to wood or tile, but it also has the extra benefits of LVP.
- Resilient against scratches, cracks, and dents.
Cons:
- If the flooring is damaged, you will have to find a touchup kit to fix, or try to find a replacement piece.
- Manufacturers switch styles frequently to keep up with trends and this can make it difficult to find a replacement piece.
- Using a saw, instead of the flooring shear can cause bad smells to form, and this can last up to 2 days.
